Hague Convention

The Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents brought about a basic simplification of the utilisation of public documents outside of the countries from which they originated.

If the country which you intend to use your legalised documents is a member of the Hague Convention of 1961, then your documents only need to be legalised by means of an Apostille. Otherwise, they will need an Embassy attestation after getting an Apostille at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
